                                                                                                              The Story Behind Zeruah Productions

I was headed to a congress in March 2007 when a snowstorm that blanketed the East Coast tried very hard to cancel my plans. I arrived at the White Plains airport three hours before flight time but boarding passes were not being issued.  There was no further information. Just about one hour before the flight was due to leave, word finally came that the flight had been cancelled. I had made up my mind to go to New Orleans “by hook or by crook”; so I decided to drive to Philadelphia to catch the connecting flight. I was unsuccessful because of the weather, long lines, no electronic boarding pass, et cetera. To make a long story short, I eventually attended the congress in New Orleans.
On my return to Philadelphia to pick up my car, I was offered a chance to upgrade to first class for the connecting flight. I thought, “Why not?” It so happens that on that flight, I sat next to a marketing consultant who flew first class all the time. I asked him about his work, then he asked me about my interests. I had to confess I had lots of accomplishments but I was still searching. He was kind enough (or bored enough with his flight) to ask a few more questions. He then concluded, “You are living everyone else’s dreams but yours.” He showed me a tattered book that he claims goes with him wherever he goes. “Get a copy of this book,” he said, “and then, please call or write to me to tell me when you have discovered your true passion and what gives you the most joy in life.”
I dutifully wrote down the name of the book which I have lightly read. However, in very little time I had my answers – God is my passion (He oozes out of almost every conversation I have) and I love to do creative stuff – write, dance, draw, design.
“Zeruah Productions” was born three months after that chance meeting. Our goal is to honor the Creator through the creative process. As the founder of the organization, I wish to highlight the contributions of women in our world. I love the Bible but I am always sad to read that many men begat other men, while the names of the women who acutally birthed all the men mentioned have been lost to civilization. I came across the name “Zeruah” in passing while reading the Bible one day but the name has remained with me. She must have been unsual for her name to live through the ages. Nothing much is written about her life in the book of I Kings except that she was a widow and the mother of Jeroboam. In other writings, she is infamous, but the notion remains that she had to be unusual.
HerStory”, the novel, epitomizes the struggle of women; therefore, it was chosen as the first work to behighlighted by Zeruah Productions. The author who uses a penname for her semi-autobiographical work showcases how God intervened in her life in marvellous ways. She eventually learned how to be truly thankful. We expect to highlight the work of other artists of different genres and both genders in the near future and, in so doing, continue to give glory to The One.
